Memorial Day Parade

May 27

Monday, May 27th - Wells Celebrates Memorial Day With Its Annual Parade The Town of Wells is proud to honor those who sacrificed all in defense of our country, their families, as well as veterans and active members of our Armed Services who stood shoulder to shoulder with their comrades in arms to preserve our freedoms. We invite all of you to join our parade on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27th beginning at 8:30 a.m. for line-up in the parking lot of Wells High School. York County Community Action Corporation has graciously donated one of their new Shoreline Explorer trolleys to transport our veterans and gold star families along the parade route to Ocean View Cemetery where we will honor our fallen and all veterans in attendance. The trolley will return the riders to Wells High School at the conclusion of the parade ceremony. The parade gets underway at 9:00 a.m. from Wells High School to Sanford Road/Route 109, east to Post Road/US 1, and south along Post Road to Ocean View Cemetery. We’re honored to announce the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks; Wells Lodge 2738 will be joining us. BPOE officers will lay a wreath at the gravesites of brothers Elbridge and Leroy Hansen who were killed in action during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, France, in October 1918. BPOE Officer Tom Chase will also commemorate the day with patriotic readings. The soldiers of the 262nd Engineer Company, Maine National Guard will be on hand with their military vehicles; the Wells High and Junior High School’s marching bands will be performing and the Wells High School A Cappella Chorus will be singing patriotic songs. If you were at our First Annual Christmas Tree lighting this past December you know how wonderfully talented they are! Of course, our fearless first responders (Police, Fire, and Wells EMS) will be on hand with the Color Guard and emergency vehicles to round out the parade procession. The Wells Board of Selectmen and Town Manager Jon Carter invite all of our residents and visitors to line the parade route and join us at Ocean View Cemetery. If you are a gold star family, a veteran, or active service member and would like to participate in this year’s parade, please contact the Wells Volunteer & Event Coordinator at 207-361-8130.
